Jack Flora Artist Bio

I am a classically and conceptually trained artist and graduate from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. My work is largely influenced by my folk roots in South Western Virginia. My work creates a personal visual vocabulary through the use of symbols, light, figures and objects. My work explores concepts of love, time, and consciousness. for me, painting is a process of restoring balance with nature and the inner self. My work explores concepts of duality and harmony, often creating a surreal composition influenced by dreams. I am an interdisciplinary artist with specializations in performance, painting, ceramics, and sculpture. The variety of my mediums reflects my identity in its vast fluidity. I often approach my work with a DIY sensibility as a means to connect with my roots and explore ideas of décor and the creation of surreal and sublime spaces.
